Class Description:

Poets who come to the Salon often tell me it has changed their way of thinking about poetry. Here we study writing techniques from a variety of sources, including my favorite book on writing, Michael Theune’s, Structure and Surprise, an indispensable guide to understanding poetic craft.

In these six week sessions poets uncover some of the great mysteries of writing, including the age old query, “What makes a poem a poem?” Poets not only learn how to write great poems, but also how to REwrite them so that they are polished, deep, and make the reader go, “Hot damn!” This series is for writers who are practiced in basic writing techniques, but want to take their writing to a more meaningful, authentic place and learn more about the craft of fine writing. This is also a great place for poets to bring their rough-drafts from previous workshops for deep-level critique, and a little spit and polish to get them ready for publication.

By becoming a Poetry Salon member you receive these benefits. . .

What the Poets Are Saying . . .

Tresha Haefner’s Poetry Salon is the answer to this poet’s prayers. Tresha’s perceptive ear and generous heart have shown me new ways to create and express myself as a poet, not to mention the invaluable help she’s given me in editing my work for publication. My acceptance stats are way up since taking this workshop. I can’t wait for class to begin again. I plan to take this class forever.

I felt the poet in me come alive again through Tresha’s workshop–she always has just the right prompt and the perfect nudge to deepen my work. I thank her for her inimitable take on life and guidance into new territory.

Can I call this a workshop? . . . More like a cure for any problem your poetry has.
